1999 V70 NA Base - new to me. To buy or not...

Post by VolvoBeginner »

I had a '94 850 NA that I bought four years ago with 130K and sold it now with 180K. I did the "must-to-do" repairs on it and it was running fine and never let me down on a road.
My grlfriend started using it for 2-3K miles a month work in a field lately and we decided to change it for something with less miles. I posted it on my favourite motorcycle forum (ADVrider) and sold it for asking price in a week :o

My local Volvo magician has this '99 V70 NA with 80K mles. It's a base model with optional TRACS. I test drove it and it drives perfect, basically, like a new car. Yes I put a deposit on it but...

The car was in a front collision. Nothing major. No Air Bags deployed, Just replaced hood, bumper, lights and radiator. Lower frame or fenders weren't even touched. I saw it when he took it apart before repair and he did an excellent job putting it back together. He works only on Volvos

He's asking $3500 for it. I like it despite the fact it's white but I'm paying national average dealer price. The guy is local and we need a car within a month on another hand. Should I pull the trigger or look for something else?

Anything different than 850 I should be aware of buying this car?

Decisions, decisions...

I would replace the TB when you get the car. The interval is 105K/10 yrs or so, and it's past that timeframe if it hasn't been replaced yet. It's better to be safe then destroy your engine.

White wouldn't be my first choice buying a brand new car (though the bright, bright white looks very nice on some cars), but for a used Volvo, you buy the best one you can find, the color is just a bonus :D

White... Just not my thing. It's like a car without a color  But for the $3500 I can live with it.

Car had one owner only and was serviced in local Volvo dealership. I see if I can get the maintenance records. If TB wasn't changed I will do that. Other than that seller is doing full mechanical inspection and tune up with brakes job since they had the mushy feeling.

So.... is $3500 good price for a base model in near perfect condition?

lol, I was racking my brain trying to come up with something other than Throttle Body but couldn't. I was REALLY confused as to why one would need to do that. LMAO....

The "Snow White" is with us for a week now. I'm very happy with it. It was well taken care of. Service records indicated routine maintenance and water pump replaced at 70K. No indication on TB replacement at that time.
All looks and works great but since it's a base model, one thing annoys the shit out of me. The lack of remote control for power locks. If it wasn't enough, when I open the drivers door with a key it only unlocks the driver door... Than I need to press the button to unlock the rest of the doors.
Does anyone here can think off an cheap upgrade for that. Remote key and all doors opening, closing at one time?

With a little bit of thought (and money) it can look like this!

...and if this site was "normal"... you would see the entire picture but i'm not making ONE special smaller sized picture so it can fit here and only here!
