Hi,
I have a 98 s70 with 185k. I read about all the problems with PCV so i decided to take it all apart and clean everything out to avoid popping my rear main seal. I noticed it wasn't blocked but it was about 60% on the bottom fitting by the flame trap. I soaked the flame trap and all the hoses in carb cleaner. You think this is good enough?
Clean or replace PCV system?

Hi I´m new to this forum and would like to introduce myself. My name is Antonio and I live in El Escorial which is located in Madrid, Spain. I have owned a ´98 V70 which runs +200K km at the moment. I have read some very detailed and interesting tutorials about PCV replacement in this site. My doubt has to do with the vacuum hose that runs from the side of the intake manifold. When I took apart the manifold I noticed that this hose was not connected to any other hose. Is this supposed to be like this? Or is this hose conneted to another hose that runs from the flame trap? I´m not sure if this is what you are talking about. I´m including to pictures of my manifold specifically showing the vacuum hose.xtrattitude4u wrote:The location of the two hoses together just make it a logical path. I don't think it would help much even if you were to route them outside the manifold. To disconnect the hose from the flame trap you would have to remove the manifold anyway, and that would be the only proper way to tell if it were clogged.
On a side note, I'm glad they moved to using metal lines for these. The previous owner rigged in some large flimsy rubber line in place of the small hard vacuum line in my vehicle. It would collapse under vacuum and make a whistling sound that was very interesting.

Antonio, that hose connects to the intake air hose down by the turbo.
The small plastic hose becomes brittle with age and breaks easily. It runs under the intake manifold and connects by rubber elbow to the intake air hose nipple down by the turbo. You'll probably find the other broken end when you get to that area.

It's at the flame trap near the throttle body. I'm going to split this off from the 2001-on section and move it back to the 93-2000.Thanks a million for your quick reply. My model however is non turbo. Does it make any difference? Thanks, Antonio.

Most of the time that is all that is actually clogged on the non-turbo models. Is it good enough? Hook it back up and see if you still have positive pressure in the PCV system and you'll have your answer. You may need to go back in and replace the oil separator box and clean the ports in the engine block - on some cars they get quite clogged up.Hi,
