1999 S80 185,000 miles. I have made several posts in the last few days, and have had lots of good feedback. I still have a no start, with SRS - Airbag service Urgent, and alarm system requires service, as my last two messages remaining.
After 3 days of working on this with my voltmeter, here is what I need.
I noticed that if the window is down, and the door is locked, if you raise the lock, and open the door, there should be a siren.
NOT SO, the lights flash, but no siren. Is it possible that the siren module has failed, is this module failing what may have been the original "full Guarded" message? Would this keep me from starting the car? All systems seem to be functioning except the srs airbag, and alarm system.
When you turn the key to start, no voltage to the starter solenoid. Please give me any and all comments about this module. Thanks Steve.

The siren is behind rh headlamp up behind the plastic fender liner. It connects too the UEM but is not on the network.
Siren could be the no start as it may have failed in a way that it is sensed as having been tampered with.
You can try disconnecting it and then doing a battery cycle.
The SRS could be related to this. But that is along the lines of almost anything is possible on the network.
The SRS module could be offline but if you have done battery resets with the neg cable connected to the pos cable then the modules should have gone down completely and restarted fresh wwhen battery was connected and key was switched on.

There are capacitors in the internal circuits of most of the modules. WHen you simply lift off the neg cable from neg post of battery the capacitors may keep the module in a hibernation. Sort of like when you laptop shuts off due to the battery getting weak but when you plug in power supply it is on in 5 seconds instead of 45 sec.
You want the module to BE COMPLETELY DEAD so that when it is powered up ir has forgotten it was broken.
If it had detected a serious error and quit doing some of its functions and quit communicating on network then you want to be sure it starts doing those things again, if possible. Keeping the neg cable touching the pos cable, which does not short the battery as the neg cable is OFF the neg post, the reserve power in the modules will be drained.

I have the modules loose, there are two sealed modules, with a bundle of wires coming in at the bottom, and a bundle that splits in the front going to each module. Do these modules slip out? Is there a catch, or locking mechanism?
If not how do I disconnect and reconnect the siren module. Hard wire?

I have purchased the siren, I will install it tomorrow when I get to the coast.
I was expecting more than a siren,, and tjhought it was a module, so I removed the cover to the UEM.
any reasons why that needs to be reassembled & covered before I try a cold start?

Update Sat 1/29/2011 siren module replaced. I still have the SRS- Airbag Service urgent in the message box.
The Transmission shows to be in park, both in the display, and at the shifter. Replacing the siren eliminated the Alarm service alarm in the message box, also now if the vehicle is locked, and the door is opened the siren and lights flash. Making progress.
But I still have a no start. I also do not show miles in the odometer. All else seems normal.
Does anyone have any wire trace information from the power 12 vdc to the starter, relays, wires and so on? When the ignition is turned to the start position, there is no loss of voltage at the battery.
The only alarm showing is the SRS-Airbag Service Urgent.

I am getting the annoying "Alarm System Requires Maintenance" message on my dashboard and my sunroof stopped working. I would like to just bypass the siren module altogether instead of replace it.
Do you know if you can do this by just jumping the wires going into the module? Or will this screw something else up? Are there just 2 wires going into the module that could be jumped? Or if more than two, which wires (what colors) should be jumped?
Or if you can't bypass the module by just jumping the wires leading to it, if I take the module out of the car and open it up is there a way to bypass/disable it so that the sunroof will still work and the car will still start? (and everything else still work
Any info appreciated. Thanks.
