Fuel pump relay or bad panel?

Everything on the Volvo S80. Sometimes called an "executive car", the S80 was Volvo's top-of-the-line passenger car. P2 platform.

Fuel pump relay or bad panel?

Post by jocoloto87 »

I just got back from a 2000 mile trip, parked, went back the next day to start and no go. I've read posts about the fuel relay pump and that sounds like the problem. I try to start it, the engine cranks and starts and then two seconds later it just dies. I pulled the relay from the driver side interior fuse panel and attached is what I found on the panel, burned like an electric socket. I tried taking a relay from the wipers I think, corresponding numbers in the slot and no change. Do I need to get a brand new relay to really make sure or is it possibly the panel that needs to be replaced?

That is the CEM on an S80 and it is LOT of money and has to be loaded with software at a delaer or an Indy with VIDA.
Make a jumper and insert between the burnt slot terminal and the terminal parallel immediately below and see if pump runs.
There is a fuel pump fuse that needs to be checked too.
Is there a check engine light on or message in DIM (inst. cluster).
