ignition switch 02 V70XC
The ignition switch on my car has a major issue. When you turn the car off the key will not turn all the way back. I know that there ia a lock that prevents the key from turning all the way off if the car is not in park, but even when the car is securely in park, it still does this. Can this be bypassed or what needs replaced to keep this from happening? Every time I turn off my car, I have to wait until the battery dies to turn it the rest of the way off. Then I have to jump it every time to start it back up.

Are you sure that the button on the shifter is releasing when it's put into park? My S70's kept getting stuck when I first bought the car - a little silicone spray and after scraping out the gunk around the knob with a paperclip, it still works fine to this day.
There is a cable that runs from the shifter mechanism to the steering column that controls that function. If you're sure the shifter button is releasing as it should, then you could disconnect it.

Yes, the button is the first thing that I checked. Do I disconnect it from the shifter or the ignition in the steering column? And if I disconnect it, it will just turn all the way off easily? I just want to make sure that I do this correctly. Thanks for your help.

I would go at it from the steering column angle - it's just easier than removing the whole center console.
Keep in mind that's there as a failsafe, so if you have kids, keep in mind they can get the car into gear using the shiftlock override button without a key in the ignition.
Your ignition collar should look something like this from the side (this is from a 1998). You can slide that cable out of the assembly. Squeeze both sides of the tabs and use a flat screwdriver to gently pry it out.

You may be able to simply adjust the cable if it is out of place a bit.

Here is the whole write-up referenced. Once you get the steering column clamshell open, you shouldn't need to do too much else referenced there to get the cable out of the way, but hopefully it will give you some pictures/more guidance:But first use a Sharpie to mark the depth of insertion of this Parking Release Cable so you know how much to insert it to the new Assembly. I think the key needs to be in position II to insert this Parking Release Cable.
