01-02 transmissions

Post by Marcobrick »

Come across a lot of info on these boards about how crap the 01-02 transmissions are. What is the reason for this? Is it the stop/neutral function only or is there more to it? I notice this function was discontinued and there is a software patch to remove it.

As far as I have heard, it is only the trans on the S80 that were crap. They were built out of glass.

The ETM was the real issue on these years.

The stop neutral, a poor valve bodythose two combined annialated these trannies
02's had no S/N but it still has the poor valve body
03 and newer have better valve bodies and better software but it's too late now for the 01's and many 02's as most have failed now or will very soon
the damage is already done

My '01 V70 still has the S/N. I'm going to get the software update to remove it because of what I've read on this forum. The tranny runs great with approx. 126,000 miles on it. In the 3 years I've owned it I'm on my 2nd drain and fill. What else can I do to increase longevity?

Wow.
I'm wondering if removing it at your miles makes sense.
Your tranny is in the 5 percentile (or less) that's still working properly with the S/N still there and introducing all new software may be too much for the old gal!

I can see how shifting into neutral at every stop can put extra wear and tear on a tranny. If I eliminate the S/N, will there be extra stress on the tranny?
