Clunking turning right, need advice

Post by Gerald »

Hi there, I'm new to the forum. Thanks for the interesting posts.

I've been driving a high mileage 98 XC for about 3 yrs, currently has 217,000 KM's. Love the car, has never seen the repair shop during my ownership due to me doing my own work.

I've addressed quite a few front end sqeeking and clunking problems, new front struts and seats, links, and top and bottom motor mounts. As I fixed each noise a new one would rear it's head, figures! :?

Now I have a "clunk - screeech" when I turn right hard and hit a bump. It's not making any noise any other time, even over bumps going straight. Having the car up on jack stands I visually inspected everything - no torn boots on the CV joints, no apparent steering linkage issues, strut bolts are tight etc. I'm left to think that the control arms and ball joints need replacing, would this be a good next move? I figure wheel bearings would be a whirring noise, which I'm not experiencing.

I'd like to order some parts but I'd like to get some tips from you fine people first. Thankyou! ~Gerald

No takers? Anybody know a test to see if they are faulty? Much Appreciated.
