v70 trailer harness dead

Post by blackv70 »

Hi, Newbie here, love my 2000 V70!
I was wiring a trailer and had power for a few minutes, but the left signal would not flash then all harness power went dead. I checked the fuse (#16) it looks OK, also the burnt bulb sensor light is now on. All the car lights appear to be working. Any ideas where to start looking?
Thanks in advance for your help.

I would check to make sure the wiring in the harness to the trailer did not come apart or short out. It sounds like it came apart somewhere along the line.

Looks like it was fuse 24! I thought I had checked it, guess not.
Also a loose tailight bulb. The sensor light is off now and the harness has power. The trailer has to wait until tomorrow.
I had thought maybe there was a secondary fuse panel for the trailer somewhere but it looks like the wires are simply spliced into the original wires. Funny thing is I was all concerned that the Volvo gods had made it overly complicated.

Looks like the 5 to 4 pin harness is shot. I have power on the vehicle side of the end but not at the female terminals. This converter plug allows the 4 pin North american trailers to be used by managing the signals with the brakes. Reese has an adapter that I am going to try. Anyone had this issue? Just replaced the headlight switch fuse as well, not sure why....
