99 S80 rear tire wear problem

Everything on the Volvo S80. Sometimes called an "executive car", the S80 was Volvo's top-of-the-line passenger car. P2 platform.

99 S80 rear tire wear problem

Post by Rick764 »

Hi yazs,
The S80 rear tires have scolloped and flat spotted all the way across the face of both tires. Can this be resolved by replacing the shocks, the control arm bushings, by alignment, or all the above. Thanks for your help

This is a classic shock failure wear pattern.

Thanx Ed , I was hoping that would be the problem. Easier than replacing bushings or wheel bearing hubs.

Considering the age of your car, you should inspect everything else too.
The rubber has deteriorated a lot in 12 years and adds a lot of sway to the car.
Shocks help maintain the tires' contact with the road.
