I restored my trim

Post by clunkerjunker »

My black trim looked pasty gray. I went to Autozone and purchased 3M's Bondo Restore Black. It came with a bottle of the dying gel and and an applicator pad. I wiped all of the trim prior with a 50/50 mixture of water and alcohol. I put on on two coats so far and am very impressed. The rear top of the bumpers was the worst and will probably need 3-4 coats. Two coats on the sides made them look brand new.

We'll see how well it holds up. Word of warning, stuff will not come off your hands.

Bumper spray paint (grey/black)
Mask off the trim and spray away.
I have found that this will last longer than anything and will last longer than your ownership the car.
If done properly looks as new and takes about an hour.
40 minutes to mask off well, 20 minutes to paint, MAX!
Mod note. Jim passed away in early 2022, his contributions to this forum are immortal, and he is missed. RIP

I did mine, first I cleaned all the trim with white spirit, then used black liquid shoe polish. The hard to reach bits I used a small paint brush, it looks great.
