S40 misfires with foot on brake and in gear

Post by vaniwaar »

Well, I purchased my first ever Volvo and got a 2001 S40 with just 75k miles. When the car is in gear and the foot is on the brake (stopped at a light for example), the engine will miss (the kids describe it as a hiccup). I was speculating that it may be the ignition coils so I got a pair from the local Pep Boys ($50 each, available next day) and a set of new plugs at the same time. I used https://www.matthewsvolvosite.com/forums ... =9&t=27232 to see how to replace them and it looked quite trivial.

So, took the opportunity to show my 14yr old son a bit of how to work on a car, swapped them out and the missfire is gone now! I have a new fuel pressure regulator on order to fix the long starts when the car sits for a while but that sounds like another very easy to do repair.

Welcome to the world of Volvo and, especially, Matthew's Volvo Site.

It is good to have someone who searches before asking. Happy motoring.

Glad to have information online to help me in my journey. I found some other good information at the 30fourty50 site but all of their links are broken so pointers to other places in their site always fail... Can't wait for the FPR (Fuel Pressure Regulator) to get here as the long starts are annoying.
