Re: Mobil1 oil - recommendation from mobil.com
Use 5w40 in both. Diesel rating is best.
Ambitious but rubbish
Note that only the 0W40 (nowadays branded as "new life") and the 5W50 bear the "Mobil 1" brand name, the others are just "Mobil" without the "1".
I currently run the 5W40 from them in my T5 since it was cheap to come by (4€/litre), but will change back to 0W40 at the next intervat (6,30€/litre). I'd like to use 5W50 again, since with that the oil consumption went to almost zero, but you can't currently get ahold of that stuff, my dealer doesn't have it anymore, and prices in the local shops are ridiculous (8,40€/litre on the internet compared to 29€/litre at the local stores!)
I had the best overall experience (cold start, time until the engine reaches temp, high speed behaviour) on Mobil1 5W50 though.

Yes,but ONLY in Europe. All Mobil oils for us market are Mobil 1.hrahn wrote:Note that only the 0W40 (nowadays branded as "new life") and the 5W50 bear the "Mobil 1" brand name, the others are just "Mobil" without the "1".
About Mobil 1...there are a little more viscosities besides 0w-40 & 5w-50 which are Mobil 1: I also want to switch to Mobil 1 5w-50 ,but in Serbia it costs double more than Mobil Super 10w-40 semi-synth which i have in my car currently(10w-40 is 6eur/l & 5w-50 is 12-15eur/l).I also might switch to Liqui Moly, they also have 5w-50 along with 10w-50 & 15w-50,but those oils are rare.If you're going to switch to Liqui Moly, here is more info:

Liqui Moly have excellent oils.

Try oeldepot24.de - they accept Paypal and as far as I know also ship abroad.
Depending on the amount you order it could be cheaper than going to the local shops.
Liqui Moly doesn't seem to clean the motor as much as Mobil1 does, they have a different mix of detergents in the oil.
When I change the Mobil1 stuff the oil is dark, almost black - but the insides of my motor get shinier with every change. Dunno what the previous owners used during the firs 250.000km, probably only 10W40 supermarket junk.

Ive had good luck with both Mobil1 10w-30 or 10w-40 high mileage. Slowed oil burning to about a quart every 3k miles...I do the oil change at 6000. But the best part is the seal conditioners....they stopped my RMS and oil pump seal leaks.
