Car cranks, no fire and no codes

Post by kippwimmer »

I have a 2001 XC70 with 108,000. It ran fine and was parked for two days. Now it will crank but not start. Tried pulling codes and there are none. Checked gas, fuses, all OK. Any ideas? Thank you

we have tried different keys, how can we reset the system if it is that problem? Disconnect battery?

If the immobilizer were the problem, would that not throw a code?

Power interrupted to ECM? Fuse? Relay? Fuel Pump/Relay? What JRL said?

JRL, I was trying to ascertain if we could reasonably rule out a broken timing belt given that it should have been changed at least 3,000 miles ago. Yes the engine will turn over with a broken timing belt; however, the engine will not start. Depending on the code reader, The OP may or may not be able to tell that the engine is out of time due to broken timing belt. The indication that the engine turns over and has fuel (I assume the OP meant he checked for fuel/ fuel pressure at the fuel rail and not just the level in the tank) hints to me that it is not the immobilizer or a problem with the ECM recognizing the key (I may be wrong as I have no first hand knowledge of how the immobilizer actually works or fails).
