t-6 turbo failure

Post by [email protected] »

My 2000T-6 was what has been diagnosted as a turbo failure. There is no boost, and the dealer claims the turbos have failed. That car has 52000 miles and oil changed by dealer, every 5-6000 miles. The extended warranty (VIP) is saying that if the turbos failed because of lack of lubercation the repair is not covered under warranty. Is this a common problem, and why wouldn't it be covered if I have done the oil changes per Volvo's interval requirements. The car has been in the dealer's shop for 8 weeks! The original problem was the throttle ECM, which they repaired, but when I drove the car out of the shop, there was no boost at all! I guess I'm at the mercy of the dealer. Help!

Unless they changed the oil for you at the dealership prior to you picking it up this last time, the turbos would not have been oil-starved. The turbos are anciliary to the engine. Consider your body. The brain will rob all other organs to keep itself alive (if you've going into starvation, that is). Likewise, the oil system is designed to lubricate the engine foremost and the turbos are, for a lack of a better phrase, byproduct recipients of the lubrication system. Don't get me wrong they have dedicated lines to and from them, but primary oiling is for the crankshaft, camshaft, etc. So, the easy approach is to start your engine, but be prepared to shut it off immediately, and remove the oil cap. Observe whether there is oil being "spun" up off your camshaft lobes. If you have oil being slung off, then we can go from there. If it's dry, then shut it off immediately--before the engine is toasted.

I'd be willing to venture that there is something that the dealer has forgotten to do that is causing your no boost condition. Get back to us.
