can't get left rear rotor off..help?

Post by The Blue Whale »

all the lugs are out and the 10mm bolt is out.

All the caliper stuff is off.

Sprayed PB blaster around hub.

I can't get the little dust cover off the center. Is there something under there I need to remove. It doesn't seem likely.

Do I just beat it with a rubber mallet until it comes off?

Front wheel drive 06xc90.

Tap around the drum area, the area between disc face and the hub face where wheel touches rotor. That usually does it and doesn't harm rotor

I don't want to sound rude, but your Emergency brake is not engaged, right? If you have the emergency brake on, it will press against the inner "hat" of the rotor, stopping you from taking it off. Check out my video: (That is part 3 of the 5 part series on doing the rear brakes).

At about 7 minutes is when I start taking the rotor off, if you want to skip ahead.

Hope this helps!

Thanks. Thought about that too. But had wheels chocked.
I just put everything back together and went and ate mexican and drank some beer to think about it.
I'll try again later.

In that case, it sounds like it is just rusted/corroded on, just beat around the edges, as I do in my video, and it will come off. Your emergency brakes may be some what engaged, in which case you can adjust them by driving in reverse and slamming on your brakes. Do this a couple of times and they will self adjust.
