This car is costing a fortune in repairs
Last year I totaled my car in a head on collision. I purchased a 2000 S80 8 months ago believing the hype of safety & reliability. The car handles great, but so far it has cost me over $2500 in repairs (fuel modules headlamp failures & now a faulty electronic module along with suspension problems) Am I done with repairs, or should I trade asap? I am very displeased & broke!

1999 and 2000 model S80's are some of Volvo's bastard children as far as reliability goes. 1999 was the year that Volvo re-designed the electrical systems in all of their cars. Needless to say, they should've spent a little more time on them. 2001 is better, but 2002 and newer are awesome, very dependable cars. If it were me, I would trade it in for a 2001 or newer.

this is in response to shareed's note on the costs of his/her S80 repairs.
I bought an 2000 S80 3 years ago and it had the 100,000 mile extended warrantee (thank god). It has been in for service 12 times for very expensive repairs that would have added up to over $7000 if I had to pay for them. It just went off warrantee and the trunk lock broke, $275. Love the car but not happy with the repair record. Probably not either of our bests purchases.

I understand a lot of peoples frustation with the 99-01 S80 problems, especially if a person spent the luxury price for one. I've only had my 2000 S80 with 125k miles a few months now and I have had to put at least $1000 in parts on it such as struts, bushings, and now subframe bolts and orings that were causing a popping noise. But to me thats not so bad considering i only paid $6,500 for the car but these things are going to wear out in time as with any car. I agree that things like this TCM that Volvo is going to take care of shouldn't fail. But HEY! I've owned a least 25 new and used cars in my life and all have had some kind of problems, even some that I drove right off the showroom floor. Heck... I've even filed a lemon law complaint on a new Chevy cavalier. I guess I am a little more forgiving right now but my other car ( 98 S70) has over 250k miles on it and it didn't get there by me not investing some kind of money in it (brakes, rotors, struts, starter, battery, flame trap cleaned, plugs, wires, and a few set of tires).
I talked to a guy the other day whom has a 2000 S80 on it with 220K and says it is still a solid car!!
