replacing rear tail lamp

Post by maders »

I have a 2008 xc70. The rear tail lamp on the passenger side body is cracked. I have the lamp which was $165. The dealer said it was 1.5 hours of shop time to replace because the bumper needs to come off. Has anyone tried to do this as a home mechanic?

Actually you are in the wrong forum. This one is for 1992-2000 year cars. More people are likely to know the answer to your 2008 question in the correct forum.
2011 XC70 T6 - current
2017 Alfa Romeo Giulia Q2 - Totaled in 2022. Not my fault.
2011 XC60 - sold
2000 V70XC - given to a friend, wish I still had it.

Maybe I am confused, but it seems like I am in the right forum(xc70 2001-2010).

I got an answer off another forum but did not work for me. They said I could remove the inside panel next to the tail lamp, pull away the insulation, and remove the 10mm nuts off of the 3 studs. Remove the power harness and then wiggle the lamp out. I could do all but wriggle the lamp out. There are two plastic tabs that drop down behind the bumper and I tried to tip the lamp out from the top but could not get it to come loose and did not want to break those plastic tabs off. so I am off to the dealer unless someone else has a suggestion.
