85 760 water leak in driver's footwell

Post by w261w261 »

With enough rain, the driver's footwell carpet gets very wet. The windshield was replaced a couple of years ago. After a search here, I did read one message that talked about a vent in the side panel not being sealed, and that the water was leaking from there. But this message talked about that vent being controlled by a manual lever, and I don't think I have one of those...probably because I have a climate control system and not a manual system. Anyway, I assume that the leak is either coming in because of a bad windshield seal, or perhaps through this vent somehow. I guess from the intake that is in front of the windshield? Also, the moulding at the left bottom corner of the windshield is loose, and by prying it up slightly I can see what appears to be a drain channel headed down. In the dark and in a good pair of pants, I couldn't see where this drain goes, if it is a drain at all. Perhaps it is plugged? This seems like a problem that must have happened before. Could some one enlighten me? Thx

Hi, I wrote that information about the vent at the inside panel. If you have it, it is placed in the footwell at the side panel just in front of the door and you will have a lever for manouvering it. If you do not have this vent, maybe the hole still exist and is covered by som plastic panel.

The drain you are asking about is very wide and should not cause any trouble. The water should come out under the car just in front of the door. The hole is something about 1" x

Did you ever get this fixed?

The vent cover is the problem...take off left shroud. On my car there is a vent plug/cover installed into the metal body behind the shroud. The cover is oval shaped about 4"wx7"h. I pulled it off and replaced with a cutout from a plastic container...milk I think! I put glazers caulking around the hole and stuck the plastic into it. Tested it by pouring water into the outside intake. No water since and floor has been dry for the past 2 years!

Good luck

Peter
