Belt Broke ~ would you fix the motor

Post by S70 Guy »

a Friend of mine drove his 94 960 6cylinder until the belt broke.
He is the third owner , knows the car history. Interior and body in good condition. His mechanic took a look at it without going to deep, saw a few bent rods. Said without going very deep guessed more bent rods but it could be fixed. Estimated about 16 hours labor. total cost about 2 grand.
Here are the question:
1) would you recomend putting 2 grand into a 12 year old car?
2) How much damage is done when a belt breaks? Oh yeah, he was on the highway when it broke and the car engine shut down.
