Hi everyone, I am currently looking at buying an 850r 1996 with fvsh.Can anyone tell me what to look out for in terms of problems when looking over this type of volvo. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Cheers Robert

The only problem that you might encounter would be a freon leak in the air conditioning evaporator behind the glove box. However, this is a common problem with any make of car, including Volvo.

I would perform a cooling system leak-down test. I put the pump on the plastic reservoir tank. Unless you have an adapter that matches the threads, don't put in more than 17psi. The pump will definitely blow-off, if not fastened securely.

If you have time, perform an engine compression test as well.

Might as well purchase the car. Expect to drain and refill auto trans fluid, replace all other fluids, replace timing belt, and install a fresh 87C/190F or 82C/180F thermostat. Plan on purchasing new brake rotors and pads. Address other problems as they occur.
