Hm, there's an interesting mix of car and SUV tires available for that car. Do car tires do ok on the gravel road or do they get cut up? i.e. do you need a truck / suv tire?

Hm. The BMW guys all seem to like the Falken ZE912. It's got great grip and all-season ability. I'm not seeing much in the way of "summer" tires in that size. We run Falkens on our race car and have had great luck with them.

Right now, Sumitomo HTR Z III. Great grip, fantastic breakway characteristics, and they wear forever. 300 treadwear. I got three track days and about 10k miles out of the rears, replaced them and the fronts are still going. That's on really crappy surfaces like Streets of Willow too--turned a 1:32.7 there on these things! I run Dunlop Direzza Star Specs on my E30 and I would run them on they Cayman for sure if they came in that size. Great tire for very aggressive driving! The Lemons guys love them. 200 treadwear.

Tire Rack's recommendations/rating system worked really well for me. I went 90% off what people said in their reviews there + 10% on suggestions here and ended up with tires that pretty much blow my mind for a price that didn't blow up my wallet.

If you use one of my affiliate links it helps me keep MVS on the 'net, and improve it, because I get 6% of your purchase.

>>> MVS-Tire Rack affiliate links page <<<

Just click any of those ads which take you to Tire Rack, then put a set of tires in your cart and buy em. That's all there is to it.

Read about my Tire Rack purchase.
Help keep MVS on the web -> click sponsors' links here on MVS when you buy from them.

Also -> Amazon link
. Click that when you go to buy something on Amazon and MVS gets a cut!

so i ended up going with yokohama geolandar at-s. am super happy. they handle awesome and are quiet for the amount of tread. i'll admit they may be a bit overkill in terms of sheer tread, but for the amount of driving that we did on burly roads (montana, wyoming, idaho, washington, etc)they did awesome. i figure between these and my blizzaks i'll never need to buy another set for my cross country. i do need another set of rims though if anybodys got some.
