I'm gonna be racing this thing

How to go faster, stop quicker, and turn harder. Chips, exhaust, larger turbos, bigger/slotted/drilled rotors, high performance brake pads, manual boost controllers, performance shocks/struts/springs, airbox mods and more! Also discussion on HID and Xenon lights, aftermarket foglights and other exterior lighting.

Once we transplant the drivetrain from this thing into it:

in a 24 hour race at Reno.

So excited. So nervous. So not knowing what to expect.

Better get a couple of hours of testing in before you try to go 24 hours, not an easy thing to do for anyone in any car
Mod note. Jim passed away in early 2022, his contributions to this forum are immortal, and he is missed. RIP

Make sure you have extra cooling for everything. ( power steering, auto trans, engine oil , the driver ,etc)

Unless you get a break you will need lubricants that stand up to that level of torture. The number one road failure cause is inadequate cooling. You will see many fail after the first few hours . Two thirds of the way through the day the drivers will start to suffer as they didn't take measure to keep them well hydrated and cool.

You need to rig up a system so you can pee while driving. You will drink about a quart an hour and pee out about 1/2 to 1/4 of that as the rest is lost through sweating.

Other than that - Drive fast - stay smooth and take small chances. Win if you can.

PS - the rear cylinders of the 5.0 HO run lean with the stock manifold.

It's a T5 trans. It's actually not my car, but this car has won before, so we can be sure it's in good shape. The motor is the only question mark. I'm going to seafoam the crap out of it this morning, then once it's out we're going to add baffles in the oil pan to help control slosh. Timing chain, new belts, maybe a new clutch. It has some kind of aftermarket exhaust, not sure if the headers are stock but good info.

Six drivers in a 24 hr race means two 2-hr sessions for each driver. I can do that in my sleep, done it 7 or 8 times previous! Now Reno...that's a track I've never seen before. I might be using the S60 for recon testing the day before the race, assuming the trans is done by then. It's not my car, and I know the owner will give the other drivers priority in testing. Still need to scrounge up another set of 17" steelies (5x114) and sell off some crap on the car.

Picked up a motor out of an 89 GT 5.0, 225hp! If it works it'll really help this thing hustle.

We had to cancel this race. Car owner broke his leg in 4 places. Now we'll be doing a double-7 type enduro at Thunderhill in August.

What size tires are on those rims, they look pretty darn good.
