Brakes are very hard

Post by muvver »

Hi there,

Anyone have an idea what my problem may be. I have 1995 850 Turbo. The brake pedal intermittantly become very hard and it feels like the "power assistance" has vanished. Then it comes back again like there was no problem. Could anyone advise me of what the problem may be. I have a mechanic change the brake pads and he found nothing obviously wrong with the "power assistance". is he a possibly a bung mechanic? Thanks

Check your brake fluid maybe?

Thanks for the reply. The brake fluid is all fine. Any other ideas?

I would jack the car and manually test each brake - sounds like there may be a blockage or frozen caliper.

I'd check your vacuum line going to the vacuum booster, particularly the check valve (one-way valve).

Do the brakes become hard right after high boost, say immediately after running the engine hard? If the check valve is faulty, the brakes assistant (booster) will fail to maintain its needed vacuum to work properly.

regards,
MAJ

Thanks everyone for the advice. I'll have a good look and report back.
