Ok, so I'm a little bummed out today. I've been having a bunch of issues lately with our 99 Volvo S80 and among them was the "Brake Failure Stop ASAP" warning with a loss of all guages but the fuel gage with the trax and ABS lights illuminated. In addition, the "Transmission Fix Next Service" light is also on.
So, after a bit of research I decided this sounded like a bad ABS module so I went through and did the repair. My first attempt seemed to go well, but it didn't solve the issue - the warning and lights came back up after about 20 miles. Since I'm a rookie solderer I figured I may not have done everything quite right so I made a second attempt. I resoldered all of the joints that could be resoldered and still no dice.
Is there any way to test the board with a multimeter, or should I start looking elsewhere? The most frustrating part is that everything seems to be working perfectly. Even when the brake failure light is on I can slam the brakes on a sandy road and the ABS works.
Not really interested in giving my next two paychecks to the Volvo dealer. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!
Thanks!

I think I'd be hard pressed to find an instrument panel I could borrow. Besides, when the Brake Failure Stop ASAP warning comes on other things in the car go haywire too. For instance, the gear indicator light on the shift console stops working and the power locks don't work.

Sounds like you have an electrical problem, not an ABS problem.

Any idea where to start looking? This car is so electronics intensive I have no idea where to even begin... Ugh.

If you were closer to me I could have tested your car with my VIDA-DICE, but I guess you better search for someone doing that in your area.
Try the ads like Kijiji, there are people who have put ads for car diagnostics at a lower price.

well after i removed two of the screws i had a really bad luck of trying to remove the other ones. So i end up removing the brake lines. After i removed the brake lines ,i noticed that somebody else tried to remove the abs unit before and the screws are all messed up. So i if you have a really hard time just remove the brake lines( put a rag underneath) get the abs unit out and thats it. Remember to take care of the brakes since all the fluid is out..one by one....pain in the butt but if the screws wont come out...what can you do about it!!!??
Im 19, and a girl, and I've been having this problem that everyone is talking about for a pretty long time.. the check engine light comes on, followed by the red BRAKE light comes on, followed by the flashing orange arrow that fucks all kind of shit up and I call it retard mode because it just does what it wants and stalls. I've come up with a few things to delay these things from happening if it gets to this point. an OBDII plug which you plug into your center console outlet allows you to clear the lights on your dash board BESIDES the red BRAKE light, which makes your speedomitor drop and the mileage go ------. but it does clear the orange arrow... it also tells you what is wrong, i highly recomend you get one if you work on your own car. So after reading this forum, which is amazing may i say, i've concluded the probems at hand. Im a HUGE believer in YOUTUBE! every problem i have with a car that im going to fix myself, i just bring out my laptop to the car, youtube something like "how to replace/repair 1999 volvo v70 _______" and i find the right video. for this exact problem, i found the best video ever, it shows you parts, hints, frezzes the frame everytime you do something and indicated with arrows what to do. it was a life saver, . also, i just had one other question. in the drivers side wheel, is there a sensor of some sort that would make the check engine light go on and relate to this problem? my dad mentioned something about this happening but i havnt had the time to fully check it out.

My point about being 19 and a girl was to say its that easy... dont let people fool you into thinking you need to go to a shop to fix it, just buy a refurbished one from midwestmodules on ebay, which i've done the research, and is the best price, and follow the video i posted. its literaly easy as that if you know the problem. its only $89 + s&h and a free video guide if you follow what Im saying.
