popping feeling in steering wheel

popping feeling in steering wheel

I have a 95 855 Turbo and when I turn the wheel hard to either direction and begin to move, I feel a sensation I can only describe as a pop. It's as if my car has dislocated a joint! I was going to check the tie rod ends this weekend...anybody have other suggestions?
