Brake Rotor & Pad Replacement

Post by JackSanb »

I own a 2005 V70, bought new and am the only driver. Current milage is 46,700 My dealer claims I need front brake pads and rotors replaced to the tune of $720. I am not a hot rod driver, don't haul heavy loads and am not hard on the brakes. Does this milage sound reasonable for having to replace the front pads and rotors? Thanks.

Welcome to the forum!

If they're the original pads, then yeah, it's probably time. Rotors? Probably not.

Doing this job yourself is *extremely* easy. Getting high-end pads (Akebono) & rotors (Zimmerman cross-drilled) will cost you about $210 from FCP Groton (this is for the fronts only. The rears will be slightly cheaper but they don't wear as fast as the fronts so you may not need them now.) These parts are better than what the dealer will sell you and they won't cost as much.

If you've never done brakes, it'll take you about an hour to figure it all out. The next time you do them, it'll take you 15 minutes!
