Code: P0172

So I got the check engine light code as P0172: System too rich Bank 1. Anyway, I put in fuel injector cleaner and I cleaned the MAF sensor with some windex. When I was done with these things I just unplugged the battery to reset the light. Will unplugging the battery do or does it have to be reset with the reset tool? If it does work fine then what else can I do to solve this problem? Thanks

I am running a K&N. I get a 0172 when the oil mist off of the filter loads up the air sensor. I typically clean the sensor with alcohol and then spray down the throttle body with TB cleaner. I have a reset too for the ODBII and I run that to clear the code.

The gas milage drops about 2 MPG and it runs a little rich. If you don't take care of it soon you can foul the plugs/O2 sensors and get other codes.

So how do you take the maf out? The actual maf or the tube that its in or do you even take it out? So did cleaning it solve the problem? Thanks for your response.

also whats tb cleaner? brake cleaner? wheres the throttle body?

MAF is between airbox and thottle body. It can be easily removed and cleaned with Alcohol or Throttle Body (TB) cleaner. A band clamp, electronic connector, and two screws and the MAF assy will come out.

It has worked for the 0172 - then again this is self inflicted with the K&N filter. I don't have this issue with any of my other vehicles.

Ok, so guess what, I cleaned my MAF sensor with alcohol, let it dry, put the tubing back on, and now my car will not start normally, and will stall.
I also hit the top of my maf sensor with the butt of my screw driver. Could this stalling be caused by a bad maf sensor? What caused this to occur when it running fine before I cleaned it?
