Help, Advice and DIY Tutorials on Volvo's P80 platform cars -- Volvo's 1990s "bread and butter" cars -- powered by the ubiquitous and durable Volvo inline 5-cylinder engine.
Does anyone else have problems hearing the sound come out of the rear speakers behind the headrests like me? All other speakers are excellent yet barely any sound comes out of the rear two!?! Is this normal and if it is not, can it be somehow fixed?
I just noticed this too. No clue as to why. Owned the car since 1992 and just noticed it. perhaps radio malfunction? I checked the connections and nothing awry.
Yes....many of my friends thought that was weird that the rear speakers barely work, especially since Volvo has a good stock system. Original thought that they were tweeters, but they are still very, very weak. If I find out anything more and how to remedy, I'll let you know - vice versa!
Can't be tweaters... the magnet is way too big. May try to take one of the speakers out and hook it up to another car stereo. I originally went to replace the stock's with some 6x9s im not using anymore, and that's when i noticed they were barely (if at all) audible. I'll have to find time to look into it. Let me know if you learn anything.
Hello, I experienced this problem myself and used a fix detailed on brickboard.com - search the archives. The problem is that the glue holding the tweeter gives way and the magnet falls into the larger speaker which prevents it from working properly. The fix is quite simple, which is to remove the speaker re-clue the magnet and reinstall.
Hey,
I had read about this someplace else, too, so I pulled out the rear speakers, and sure enough the magent had fallen. So, I glued them back, replaced the speakers, and turned the radio on to hear the greatness.
Then, I remembered reading that the front dash speakers can do the same thing. So I listened, and there was nothing coming out of either of them. Popped out the right speaker, dug around and found the magnet. Then I took out the left speaker. The magnet has fallen off, but it is somewhere deep inside the car. Any idea where it could be or how to get to it? Or where I could buy a replacement magnet?
Hoping to make the car I though was 8 speakers, then found out to be 4 speaker, back to 8 (at 6 right now. Right dash speaker is gluing at the moment).
I just stuck my hand in and searched around. Maybe my magnet got stuck to something within reach and your's went farther in?
I'll try calling around and see if there are any wrecking yards nearby. Would I be able to replace the speaker with a new speaker easily? Is it a standard size?
Did you dig out the right speaker from the top of the dash or from underneath it?
I am pretty sure that you can replace them with brand name speakers. Just make sure that you have the right size. Perhaps bring in a sample one to the speaker store for a perfect fit?
