98 S70 overheats and I just changed the t-stat and coolant

I just changed the t-stat and coolant but it will still overheat coming up hills and when it is hot outside. Has anyone else had this problem? Does anyone know where I can find a thermostat that opens earlier?

No, haven't had that frickin problem.. That kind of sucks n' stuff. I would hate it if mine did that. Sorry I can't help any.

Dude, that really sucks. I wonder whats going on? Hmm.. Kind of weird. I wish that someone could help you out and figure out what the heck is going on with that. I'm glad I'm not having problems like that. Knock on wood! hee heee :wink: Anyway, good luck to you.

Jeez, we have some brilliant ones out there! I would say.... I don't know. Butt, I would take it to a mechanic and see if he knows whats going on. I know there are some good mechanics out there and thats what I would do. Butt anyway, I guess maybe you could have thought of that one already. I would try and put new coolant and oil in there and see if that does anything for you. I'm glad I could be of a little help at least! :D

What is happening to this forum! There are usually some smart people out there.. :roll: I would see if I could find a thermostat that opens earlier for one.. I could maybe look on Google for you and look under thermostats. Maybe they are on there or something. My S70 overheats all the time, but I still drive it. Not that big of a deal on a car made so well. Sorry about all the idiots out there and good luck finding a thermostat.

Make sure the t-stat is in in the correct alignment. There's supposedly a correct way to turn it so that something lines up with something on the housing, i.e.: just putting it in flush isn't enough.

I didn't know this when I did mine, but I must have put it in correctly via blind luck.

Also, you may want to find out if you have the lower or higher temp t-stat. I spoke to a mechanic who claimed the higher one made the engine happier, but that there's a cost to older models in the form of higher pressure (hoses breaking if they're weak etc.). Perhaps yours is the higher temp t-stat and it's simply too hot.

It could be a simple reason.

R U the first owner?

If not then the first owner could have used an engine additive.

Some engine additives (Made in USA) (cannot name who or else will be sued until my hair falls off) coat the engine with a layer of "plastic". Seems that lubrication is better initially but in the long term engine rapidly fails due to overheating. What better insulator that plastic?

How I know? I did it to one engine...did not know....did it to another engine....now no longer stupid......will never buy snake oil additives again.

TRY AN ENGINE FLUSH.....WILL HELP ONLY A BIT BEFORE ENGINE FAILS COMPLETELY....
