Hi. 2001 v70 at issue here. My driver's side rear turn signal wasn't working, so I changed the bulb. It turns out that the plastic housing is partially melted. I am now unable to get the socket snugly fitted into the housing, and the turn signal does not work.
I was thinking of trying to remove the lens cover (assuming that's the right phrase -- the colored plastic exterior of the brake light/turn signal lights). If opened, I could clean the contacts on the body that the socket meets, then I could snugly fit in the socket. I did clean the contacts on the socket and apply dielectric grease already.
Is this a good idea? Looking at the lens cover, I'm not even sure how to remove it. I do not want to buy a new panel for all those lights -- I'm poor!
I would appreciate your thoughts. Thanks!

It will be easier to just remove the whole tail light assembly. Once it's out you will have better access to the socket to attempt to fix. If it is not repairable then just get a used replacement. You can find them cheap on eBay or there is a guy I have bought parts from that has tail lights he is selling from a parted out 01 V70.
Thanks for the advice. You're right, they are affordable on ebay. Is it possible to remove the cover, or do they come securely fixed to the panel? I don't think there's any hope of fixing the problem without removing the cover. If that is not possible, then I will certainly pick up a used or cheap new one on ebay and swap it out.JetMechGAC wrote:It will be easier to just remove the whole tail light assembly. The cover (red lense part if that is what you are talking about) is "plastic welded" to the reflector part of the assembly. So, unlike the headlights, you will not be able to split the two parts of the assembly. Even I you were able to "fix" the assembly, it will give you more of the same problems down the road as I have experience with that kind of stuff. Just replace it and be done with it.
