Maintenance for warranty. Has to be done by dealer?

Post by Guest »

Hello all, I've been reading the forum and find it very informative. However, I've been having trouble finding any threads or information regarding the warranty and preowned certified warranty details.

I'd like to know if maintenance work done by someone other than the dealer is acceptable to keep your car under warranty. I know that most warranties require the owner to provide proper maintenance of the car for it to be covered.

I'm asking this since I've heard that an oil change by the dealer is extremely expensive. Somenone said $300.00, is this accurate?

I'm interested in getting a V70 but I'm concerned with maintenance and repair costs. I've seen a few post that one should do these repairs themselves. Unfortuantely I'm not gifted that way and I'd rather have a professional with the proper tools and experience complete this type of work.

If I go with this approach, how much would I expect to pay for common maintenance and repairs? Will it be very expensive? Can I trust basic autoshops to be able to properly service a Volvo?

Any info on the topic is much appreciated.

Regards,

Mike

Saving receipts for routine maintenance is adequate proof for keeping the warranty valid. Receipts for parts (oil, filters, etc.) will suffice if you perform the work yourself.

Personally, I've had poor results trusting our cars to mechanics who were not experienced with Volvos. It's easier and much cheaper to do as much as you can yourself.

Whew.
A dealer oil change runs from $32 to perhaps $45.
As long as you KEEP RECORDS anyone can do the services.
It's sort of a good idea, but not a MUST, to have the dealer do the 30K
(and the 60K if you have an extended warranty)
