No. I apologize if that is what my posted sounded like. What bothers me is that university administrators naively believe that just saying something as policy makes it happen. I do not mind being unable to carry on campus (I understand the reasons why it should not be permitted and, by and large, agree with them), what I mind (and what I worry about) is that there is no creation of a deliberate sterile environment like an airport, courthouse, etc. that offers students and faculty any real protection against these kinds of harms.
Ok, this makes more sense and I do agree with you. It is sad though that our society has come to a point where you cannot even go to school without feeling like you can be harmed at any moment. Makes you sometimes not want to have kids just because you are scared what life may be like for them.

Quoted for truth. This is the number #1 reason I'm so ambivalent towards having kids--on the one hand, it's a wonderful blessing, on the other, do I really want to bring another soul into this sad world? Maybe my future wife will be okay with adopting--after all, they're already here.

I agree. I can't imagine it getting much worse out there. It will be a very scary world if it does.
