99 S80 Running Poorly When Hot- Xemodex ETM

Everything on the Volvo S80. Sometimes called an "executive car", the S80 was Volvo's top-of-the-line passenger car. P2 platform.

99 S80 Running Poorly When Hot- Xemodex ETM

Post by hamblen3 »

Hi Everyone,

1999 Volvo S80

Hoping that i can get a bit of help, maybe an idea or two.

Background: I Was Driving My Car To Work last week, it was running fine till about 15 minutes into my 25 minute drive. Started Idling Rough, stalled out 3 different times.
Accelerator wasn't responding then all at once it would rev way up. Then put its self into "limp mode" wouldn't get above 2000 rpms, no acceleration. At the Start Of All this happening "service engine system urgent" Came up on the computer display.
Parked the car and came back about an hour and a half later. Car started just fine ran great for about another 15 minutes, same thing all over again.

What I Have Done:
Lots... At first i read allot of these forums, all pointed me to replace the ETM (It Was The Original) I replace it with the Xemodex Model for the car. Still A No go. Called Xemodex and they suggested checking the ground to the ETM, Checking The Fuse And Engine Management System Relay, and applying a new line of power to the ETM to make sure it was getting the required amount of power. I have have checked, replaced, and done all the things they suggested.
I Have Checked The Installation to make sure everything is were it is suppose to be, and check the plugs and coils for any issues. i Just put in new plugs about 3 months ago. And Replace 3 Of The Coils. The car is not throwing any codes that i can pick up, no mil lamp, and no check engine light. But the "service engine system urgent" Still Reads On The Display.
Today It started telling me things like the fuel cap was loose, (and it wasent) along with coolant level low (it was almost overflowing). When I Park The Car It seems really hot, hotter than it really should be.

Thanks For Any Help I Can Get. I Am Just Out Of Ideas
Matt :?: :?: :?:

On an S80 the codes you get with a generic OBD-II scan tool are very limited. Network communication problems could be the problem here and the OBD-II scan tool is of little or no help. You need a dealer or a dedicated Volvo independent to check out what is wrong.

Thi smight seem a really stupid question but is the ETM replaced the right way around? if its inlet and outlet are reversed then it will behave in a rather strange way - Mike
