Thanks Ericv11. looks very familiar except your breaker tube looks different than mine or is it just the elbow without the flex attached?
I am most unhappy now if this is a known problem to FCP. Will call this am to discuss with them.

While plenty of tricky things came up for me, I do not recall having this issue with the IPD kit.

Status Update- Spoke with FCp customer service this morning asked to wait for a call back from their "volvo tech". I waited...no call for a couple of hours so, being impatient, I calls again and got a nice fellow who seems most helpful and thank to the pictures provided by ericv11 (MAD PROPS TO YOU eric) I was able to clearly demonstrat my probel. Kudos also to the rep from FCP who not only knew the forum but immediately brought it up and looked at the pics. I just got home and calle dhim to with my VIN # so he can research with Volvo the correct part..hopefully. I am hopeful that FCP will make this right with their usual good service and cheer. I will share the outcome with you.

There are two versions of the N/A kit based on your engine serial number and the biggest difference between the two is the line that goes to the bayonet style mount on the intake snorkel at the flame trap, they are not the same.

Thanks Lee. In my research I now see that and having spoken with a couple of Volvo dealers. I have an early engine and the system matched what FCP shows as a 1995 type system for N/A automatics. I am waiting for them to open to discuss this with then as they left yesterday without calling me back. Bottom line is I was sent the wrong kit and their system doesnt ask for an engine serial # for the 1996 model year where it clearly should ( Hind sight being pefect an all that). All the other parts seem to be the same except the larger breather pipe ( 3 pieces actually) between the oil trap and the flame trap nipple. There is also a small vacuum line that runs parallel that runs from the flame trap nipple to the pass side of the intake manifold. In the newer models this is all supplied from Volvo as a single assembly part Volvo Part # 9125598. My plan is to return that single part for a refund and get what remainder locally as I cant wait for FCP to ship because I need the car on the road for Monday. As it is I will be working on it the rest of easter weekend. <sigh>

UPDATE
Monday April 25, FCP has confirmed the kit they sent me for my 1996 850 non-turbo did not contain the correct parts for my specific car. Specifically the PCV pipe between the oil trap anf the flame trap.
The parts I need are the actual plastic pipe and the two rubber ends, all separate parts #'s. I will have to make up the vacuum line myself with the leftover bits from the FCP kit.
I have asked to return the incorrect part and be credited the cost. I am awaiting a response to this request.
All in all the Customer Service rep from FCP was helpful and professional. However, considering my sons car was rendered undriveable for 5+ days now and he had to return to school today without it, I don't think this was handled with the sense of urgency I would have liked. To be fair it was Easter weekend and I was unable to provide requested VIN/serial numbers until Friday afternoon. Perhaps expecting a call back Friday before quitting time or offering to overnight the correct part once the error in the parts kit was identified was expecting too much. Customer service was not bad but not over the top either. I would not stop being a customer as this was an unusual situation all around and was not a collossal screw up on FCP. Stuff sometimes happens.
I Spent 10 hours on Friday and Saturday trying to determine why this part didn't fit and working with a dealer to actually ID the correct parts and then calling every dealer in 2 states and DC to see if anyone had the parts. There are actually two lines in the assembly I was sent (see picture in earlier post on this thread.) , a breather size pipe and a vacuum line that originates at the flame trap nipple and runs past the oil trap to the passenger side of the intake manifold. This Volvo part #9125598 apparently is for later versions of the 850. It appears that there is an engine serial number split in early 1996 and the FCP website part selection system did not have this information.
A BIG thanks to 'Woody" Woodland the parts manager at Koons Volvo in Owings Mills, MD (just outside Baltimore) for spending a couple hours with me trying ( in vain) to find a solution to get my car on the road on Saturday. He even brought out other similar parts to see if we could piece something together. Patient and VERY VERY knowledgeable. A lifetime Volvo parts guy 40 years.

I don't mean to hijack, but, a related question:
Has anyone tried using generic hoses to replace the main breather tube and that little vacuum line?
I wouldn't try it for the box-to-head or box-to-block hose, but I'm tempted for the box-to-intake hose.

As I mentioned I am now using generic silicon vacuum line for the small line to the manifold nipple.
For the main line, when my old pipe cracks I will go with copper pipe:

My neighbor has a repair shop and has done this repair a lot of times. I learned this after the fact BTW. In speaking to him he does exactly what you describe.
Now to return to your regularly scheduled thread: The PCV Breather pipe for my specific engine is nationally back ordered and no one is 5 states has it. My local dealer did not tell me this until the time the order was to be picked up. Imagine my surprise. I FREAKED! Then I had an idea to go to the bone yard..CRAZY RAYS here in mid Maryland and found a pristine hose and fittings in a 1994 850 that was a perfect match. I cleaned it up and put it on. Car on road & kid can drive to school. I kept the pipe on order and will keep it ready when and IF it arrives. The used one wnt last forever.
FCP tried their best and is paying shipping back for the wrong part. Much appreciated.
