Im considering getting a 2003 v40 1.9 turbo with 55k miles
What are the pros or cons of this particular car?
Are there specific things ( problem areas) that I should look for, flaws?
We've had Volvos in my family for a long time and they were/are good cars (well that 760....)
Thanks in advance for the info
How good are V40s???

Depends who you ask and what you want it for.
Far as I know, the S40/V40 are platform-mates with a Mitsubishi, making that one mighty nice Mit, and a subpar Volvo, which is probably still a pretty nice car. I have seen S40's get into crashes, and they live up to the marque in that respect.
If it were me, and it had to be newer than an 850/S70, I'd be thinking V70, S60, or S80.

Looking at good mpg, safety, and something to zip around.
I mean, been reading the posts, but as you and I know, forum use is mostly when you need to fix something..
Looking at v70's 850 wagons as well.
Like the v40 though, at least in looks and convenience..

Something I learned about them today is that the heater core can't be bought non OEM (at least not from FCP) and that the dash must be removed for this particular job.
Somehow this puts me off them after just having done two heater cores in the same day on both our 850s for a cost of $230 in parts for both.

I have had s40 2001 for 6 years. I got it it with 51k and it's 183k now. Good fuel economy at speed 80mph it is about 30mpg, it is beter at slower speed. At about 60k had misfire, had a hard time to find the problem, original volvo spark plugs fixed the problem. Somwhere about 110k had to replace front wheels bearings, and few sensors. One of the bearings on the alternator belt makes a noise now, still not sure which one. I don't like the dash cup holder and door handles-plastic and easy to brake. Other then that I was satisfied with this car.
