2001 XC Wagon 68K Miles Needs New Transmission
I have a 2001 XC Wagon with 68K miles that needs a new transmission. I have it serviced faithfully at the dealers where I bought it. Things have been great; I loved my car. It was struggling to shift from 1st to 2nd around the middle of December; then it was fine. The problem came back - the dealer is now telling me I need a new transmission. I didn't get the extended warranty and they are saying $3800 to replace it. They are going to check with Volvo to see what they will do for us. Any suggestions? Should I really need a new transmission now? I love my car. Happy New Year!

Don't know if you really need a new transmission or not...dealers always want to do this and I have heard of people going to an independent mechanic who flushed their transmissions and they are still driving their Volvo's without a tranny exchange years later. I would definitely get a second opinion before going the $3K+ route.

Hi,
I also had to replace my tranny at about 80K from on my dealer serviced V70XC. My understnadiing is that it is a COMMON problem. I am now worried about the replacement!

I got 1999 v70xc that has 52K. but tranny died. The dealer told $3800 to replace and I went out to get 2nd opin. then AAMCO told me that they would beat the dealer price but they lied. Total came out $4300 to rebuild and some upgrade. I didn't happy with price but they did a good job on it. Just talk to dealer that $3800 is firm or not. If so, go with dealer and you will get a loaner car from it as well. $4300 was with TAX.

i was told by 3 different volvo specialists to never go with a tranny shop rebuild... get a new or used volvo transmission.
Do some research on lubegard. I hear tranny repair guys love this stuff.[email protected] wrote:I have a 2001 XC Wagon with 68K miles that needs a new transmission.
