99 s80 t6 fwd trans vavle body replacement
Ok first off I must say this is one of the coolest volvo sites I have found. I have been reading and researcing alot on my car and other models. I bought a 99 s80 t6 cheap with 130k. The car has been fairly well maintained but as with most s80's the transmission is a big issue. I work as a mechainc so shop lifts and tools are not an issue, I have ran my scanner and found several codes the most important is shift solenoids stick for 1-2 and 3-4 If I put in d then just goes to limp mode but if I shift geartronic I can get into 4th. I can get shift solenoids and replace them also I have found a few websites that offer a rebuilt valve body with upgrades for the gm trans. I am just wondering If anyone here has ever attempted to replace valve body vs just the shift solenoids? Any hints or pointers would be greatly appreciated. I will be attemping this repair very soon. I will deffinetly be posting pics and progress as well as where getting parts prices ect. I also would like info on a good place and price to purchase the manual for this transmission. Thanks in advance

The 'manual' is on a CD. It is called VADIS and could and hopefully still can be found on ebay. It covers many years and models.
I paid just a few dollars for my copy which IIRC came from Britain.
Let us know if you do install an 'upgraded' valve body or find that there are upgrades which can 'harden up' this transmission..

Its important to note the that valve body in the transmission for GM application and for Volvo are different. The valve bodies are NOT interchangeable between the GM and Volvo "editions". From what I understand, the valve body itself is not too troublesome. Its usually solenoids, clutch packs and or some of the splines on the shafts.
These guys know both the Volvo and GM applications for the tranmission real well: http://www.tripleedgeperformance.com/
They have a manual too. This link will give you an idea of how to go about rebuilding it: http://pontiacbonnevilleclub.com/forum/ ... f=8&t=1483

Yeah I was going to purchase the valve body from triple edge performance. If that does not fix my problem I am going to take it out and send it to them to get rebuilt. I will cost a few dollars more then local rebuild but it will have all the new updates to make transmission stronger. The shop where I work at just took one out of an oldsmobile aurora because of the tcc control valve hanging up. I will look up for that cd other wise I will be buying the manual from tripedgepeform. I will update in couple weeks when get valve body ect. Gathering funds lol this stuff gets exspensive quick.
