Hello,
I own an XC70. It’s an AWD. The car has 200 000 miles on it. It's a US vehicle but I live in Quebec, Canada, in the French side of the country. I hope I'll express my problem correctly in English.
Few days ago, I had the winter tires replaced by brand new all-season tires. I installed Toyo Extensa. At first, I thought the vibration was caused by a poor wheel balancing, but after the new tires were installed, and the wheels cleaned up, the vibration remains. It's not major but you can feel it. Yesterday, I was driving on the highway at about 60 MPH. When I gently push the gas pedal to accelerate, I heard a "grrrrrrrrr" coming from what I thought was the transmission. The car had difficulty to keep going, and jingles until a release the accelerator. I did not stop. It's happen three times the same day. Every time, I had to push the gas pedal to accelerate. Normally, the transmission shifts smoothly, and I just had the automatic transmission fluid cleaned up. During each event, there was no warning light on the dashboard, and it seems that the computer did not read any faulty code. The mechanic performed a road test in the same conditions, but everything went well.
Does anyone encounter the same problem? It could be different things: the driveshaft, the differential. In very case, it seems to be very costly to find the problem, and the mechanic is not sure to find the problem.
Thanks’ for your help!

This sounds to me like a failing coller between the transmission and the angle gear. This is a big issue with the S60R guys and I have heard people with the XCs having the same issue. You will need to have the angle gear removed and the coller replaced to fix it. If you think you can get by without the AWD, you can probably get away with just removing the driveshaft.
