I don't think taking right side out is going to help.
Push in on the left one, turn 90 degrees and repeat prying it out. Do the push turn pull a few times and maybe the snap ring will fall back in place in its groove and then it can move into groove to allow axle to come out.

The bevel gear takes a 75W-90 GL-5 gear oil. I use Amsoil Severe gear 75W-90. Use a full synthetic and a magnetic plug if you can. What is very important is the oils ability to coat the interior of the gear and keep rust at bay. Almost every failed bevel gear I see either leaked or the interior is covered with rusty oil which has eaten up the seals etc.
I use the severe gear and there is never even a hint of rust. I am sure others will do well also.

Some applications need a grease on the splines to the trans. The Volvo product uses a PAO formulation so i would use an Amsoil or the Volvo PAO grease.
