The bevel gear takes a 75W-90 GL-5 gear oil. I use Amsoil Severe gear 75W-90. Use a full synthetic and a magnetic plug if you can. What is very important is the oils ability to coat the interior of the gear and keep rust at bay. Almost every failed bevel gear I see either leaked or the interior is covered with rusty oil which has eaten up the seals etc.

I use the severe gear and there is never even a hint of rust. I am sure others will do well also.
