When doing this repair, is this a good time to change out the oil dipstick tube as well so that i can actually use the new dipstick I bought?
I wasn't sure if the oil dipstick tube would be easily removed based on everyhing that needs removed for the PCV repair. ( i think it would but not sure)
Am having problems installing FCP PCV KIT on 850
What car was this post based on? I bought the kit for a 1998 V70 n/a and would like to know if the parts will work and that i wont have anything that doesnt fit before I start this. (if it was my car i wouldnt care but i am doing this for someone else)

If the V70s are like the 850s in that area (and as far as I can tell, they're pretty much identical), it would be a good time, but then I can get the dipstick tube out of my 850 in less than five minutes without removing anything else from the car. Just go at the bolt from under the car with a couple long extensions and maybe a universal joint.Amopower wrote:When doing this repair, is this a good time to change out the oil dipstick tube as well so that i can actually use the new dipstick I bought?

Are there any known problems with the kits for Turbo models post 1995?

The elbow at the end of the intake manifold tends to fall off of either the manifold or it can become dislodged from the hard line from the PTC. Adding zip ties when you install the new parts will go a long way.Marcobrick wrote:Are there any known problems with the kits for Turbo models post 1995?
As far as fitment I have had no issues.

Just a quick note in support of FCP. I recently bought a 1998 V70XC AWD with 175K and, from extensive perusal of the forum, came to the conclusion that the PCV system needed replacement. Bought the FCP kit, and some other bits and pieces. The kit went in like a dream, allthough I had some clamps left over (prefer worm drives). Anyway, with the PCV set installed, a new set of NGK Iridium plugs, air cleaner, and two weekends sorting out the hoses,(vacuum and otherwise), things are going quite well.
Also had some Indicator problems, and after cleaning out the ignition switch, thats taken care of. I do now have an SRS warning, and have fiddled with the SRS connector, but no luck so far. After the first assembly I had a miss and P0300, 0301, 0302, 0304, 0305 and 0335 indications, but after this weekend replacing vacuum and airpump hoses thats all gone.
Developed a coolant leak from the water feed to the turbo, and took care of that.
My remaining problems are the Cruise (still trying to get to the Brake Cancel Switch) and the A/C will not run cool, even after filling up with refrigerant (must be the Clutch, which does click in and out as I expected, but must need the shim job).
Getting (mentally) ready for the Timing belt replacement next.

I'm just finishing the install on my '97 GLT and it's fitting very well. Just do yourself a favor and take lots of pics during the teardown so you can retrace your steps putting it back together. My daughter snagged my camera without my knowledge, so I'm paying for it with trying to run (and re-run) the various hoses to the right spots!Marcobrick wrote:Are there any known problems with the kits for Turbo models post 1995?
If you scan through jblackburn's post, you'll read about two issues I had getting the thing apart and what I did to get around them (just posted last night).

Very similar problem with a kit from IPD on my 850R. Only it was the longer hose that goes around the back of the engine from the box. It was simply too short to connect. after e-maails and phone calls and denials etc., I ordered that hose direct from my Volvo dealer, it fit exactly right and I'm a happy camper.
(I still like IPD and buy from them, but sometimes their Cust. Service folks hard-headedness can be a PITA.)

I initially ran into a shortness of an inch for the large hose, but then realized I needed to run it through a bracket just below the distributor, so that it ran right alongside the engine. Precise fit, I’ll give you that! If only I had my camera, I'd have seen where the dang thing was originally run!
The two hoses that run through the foam sleeve had the elbows as a part of the hose themselves, so there was no need to mess with figuring out which went where. I fitted the ends onto the PCV and reinstalled the air hose to the turbo, then ran the hoses to the tank in the front. Seemed like it would be easier to do that than to try and wrestle them onto the PCV after it was cleaned and back on the turbo.
