camshaft cover (?) bolt accidently removed, need advice

Post by orzech »

Hello everyone.

Yesterday I replaced plugs on my 2005 S60 2.5T. In the process of removing coil packs I unscrewed one of the four screws around the cylinder instead of the coil pack screw. I looked far and wide and it seems to me these screws (looks like 20 of them, 4 around each plug) are holding the camshaft cover. Tried to look it up in VADIS, in the section about valve adjustment, but would feel safer if someone confirmed my findings.

Assuming these really are the camshaft cover screws, is it enough to tighten the one screw I touched back up to 10 Nm, or do I need to go through the whole process of removing the cover, cleaning it, resealing and reattaching it?

Thanks for any input,
-- Tomasz

You're good. Just take care of the ones you loosened.

The gasket itself is so strong that you could probably drive it 100 miles with all 42 bolts loosened (though I wouldn't recommend it) before the cap begins to pop apart. Just don't overtighten as the threads could be worn.
