Transmission Trouble

Post by Travis »

I have a 1998 Volvo S70 turbo with 120K miles. The other day I was driving down the road and the transmission stopped working. The rpms increased but the car did not move forwared or backwards. I let the car sit for 10 minutes and started it up. The car drove for about 3 or 4 minutes then did the same thing again. I checked the transmission fluid and it appeared to be okay. I thought that maybe the transmission oil filter might be clogged but in my search I see that the S70 has no transmission filter.

Any idea what might be wrong, I'd hate to replace the transmission if I did not have to.

Any assistance is greatly appreciated.

Many thanks,
-Travis

Any clunking or harsh engagement. I'd try a flush and refill if I were you.

Sounds like it could be the Park to Neutrual switch (P&N). Search it out....plenty of info here and on the Brickboard about it.

Have you pulled the trans code? For safe measure, recommend that the fluid be flushed/changed.
