'99 S80 T6 Engine Runs Rough ETM Lambda light

Today I cleaned the ETM (bit of a job though) and everything was fine for the first 10-15 min: smooth run, acceleration perfect.and then after I switched the car off and started again everything was the same as before: the Lambda light on our 99 S80T6 lit up, the display showed "emission service required" and the engine runs really rough, vibrates/surged, and no power. Anybody else has this problem before?
BTW, I live in Australia and taking the car to the mechanic is like selling your soul to the land owners in South America mid 18th century so I'd rather do it myself if possible.

Vacuum leak? You need to find out what the specific code is that it's thrown. Check all your vacuum pipes and soforth though.
'04 XC90 2.5T AWD (Angus) 134K.

'98 V70 T5 (Vivienne). RIP @ 228K. Spun rod bearings.
