Electric seats malfunctioning
I have a 89 760 turbo that has a problem with the front drivers side electric seats. Most of the time you cannot adjust the seat position as the switches do not operate. However, every so often (like when you get mad at it and bang on the housing), the switches will work, but only that one time. The next time you try it, no luck again. I am 6'4" and my wife is 5'2" so you can see where moving the seat is a necesity. Any suggestions on how to disassemble/fix it myself??

every electrical device on the car needs power, a resistive device (in this case a seat motor) and a ground return. I would measure each link for voltage drop from your description it sounds like you may have a bad switch which would be indicated by a large voltage drop across the switch. I recommed very highly How to diagnose and repair automobile electrical systems by tracy martin I have been reading books like this for years and this is by far the best! The voltage drop should occur across the motors leads when the switch is acitvated there should be only a small voltage drop across the switch (like .2v)

my driver's seat is acting up too... it slides forward, but sometimes it only nudges rearwards (and other times it works) - and it takes repeated nudging of the switches to actually move the seat rearward (but it does move).
