I have Koni FSD's, eibach springs, IPD swaybars, OMP strut bar. It rides hard on bad pavement, (but even stock, these cars are not good) and cruises on the highway perfectly.

That's a good thought about the vacuum leaks Erik. I don't have any other indications that I have a problem but will keep that in mind.

instarx, when you ran with no a/c, were the windows down? If so, maybe that made the difference. Better aero with the windows up perhaps?

I've gotten around 35-40 mpg with my front windows down and sunroof open. AC just eats a lot of gas and zaps power on these cars.

Good thought, but I made the no A/C trip in the cool early morning (4 - 9:30 am) with the windows up, so that wasn't the difference. I made the return trip in the hot afternoon with the A/C. By the way, my cruise is very sensitive to the +/- button. Just a quick tap and it increases a little less than 1 mph. There was an altitude increase in one direction, but it was only a 1,000 feet total change in 300 miles so I doubt that made a huge difference. I think around 68-69 mph and 2,400 rpm may simply be the sweet spot for this car for efficiency.

And I measured the mpg using fill-ups and miles driven - not the computer value.

28.5mpg vs 30mpg? I'm guessing you had a tail wind on the 30mpg tank and the opposite on the other leg. Even slight wind will make a huge difference. I've also found in multiple cars that rolling hills are quite good for mileage. My best cruise control car = Jetta TDI - so much torque that it never needs to downshift even on steep hills.

That's possible. The trip over was without any wind at those hours, but the trip back could have had a 2-3 mph tailwind. It was definitely not noticeably breezy. But my main point was it was totally surprising to me to get better than 30 mpg at almost 70 with the A/C going.

I'll be doing the trip again in a few months and we'll see if it happens again.
