Post by Cibrocsa »

Need some help if at all possible,3 days ago the lights on my S70 (headlights,turn signals,Brakes etc) will not come on (sometimes)when the car is started,I have disconnected and re-connected all of the connections up front I could find(all fuses are ok and tight),however when it does happen,I open the hood and close it the lights come back on and everything is fine till the next time it happens,anyone out there hear of a similar problem ?Otherwise the car has been flawless the first year i have owned it.

Thanks John

I own an 1998 S70 and I have not had any problems with the lights so far.. (knock on wood) Although, I have read things in consumer reports and other reviews saying that the S70 is known for having electrical problems concerning the head lights, turn signals not being connected very well. You would think that they would figure out the light bulb by now!! It's a little strange, but your not alone, although your case does seem a little more serious then the ones I have read about. Good luck with everything and let us know what you find out.

Check your headlight switch on the dashboard. I've heard of these causing similar problems.
Help keep MVS on the web -> click sponsors' links here on MVS when you buy from them.

Also -> Amazon link

Our 1998 S70 (recently purchased) has a similar fault with the rear fog lamp and activating the 'bulb failure' light on the dash. Opening and closing the boot (trunk) usually 'fixes' the problem for a few days. Permanent solution (gleaned from another volvo site) is to clean all the contacts with fine sandpaper (emery paper) and spray with contact cleaner. Haven't yet done this - will post results when I do it. The other board member who did this has not had a reoccurrence of the problem for 18 months. (for good measure after cleaning as above he replaced all the bulbs). Cheers.

I had a similar experience the other day. The car started and I had no headlights, dash lights and had to use the override switch to get out of park. I drove to my next stop and when I restarted everything was normal. I was wondering if the headlight switch would cause the override problem as well. :?
