The V70 XC I recently got into is in good shape, but the tape deck wont play, merely switches from one side to the other, back and forth - thereby rendering my non-radio-based iPod adapter, useless.
Is there a way to fix this, should I simply blow up for a bomber system (this is a mountain car, not a showpiece, so I need durability as well as form), or is there anyone out there who could tell me where the bloody hell I could get one of these?
Thanks, in advance.

Does it play a known good cassette? If it is the adapter that is giving you problems try a different brand. Sometimes you have press the program(side) switch several times and then it will settle down and work.

I had the same problem and it turned out to be the rubber band that drove the wheels inside had snapped. It's about 7 inches in diameter and very thin, so finding a replacement part (in my mind) was futile. I picked up a new head unit from Amazon (using the link above, of course!) that had iPod and 3.5 mm jack support for a little over 100 bucks.

I have a 2000 V70XC I am going to swap the radio out this weekend. PM me if you are interested in it. Last time I checked the tape worked along with the CD player etc. I also have the code for it.
