removing 2.9 engine from 2001 S80

Hello,

I'm a new Volvo owner, I bought a 2001 S80 with a bad engine and I'm starting to attempt the removal of the engine. I found a used engine with a little over 80k on it so if I can change this out I should be good for awhile.

Looking at this it seems like I might have a hard time bringing it up out the top. Not sure if there is enough room in front of the engine between the right frame rail and the front of the engine to allow the flywheel to fully come out of the trans.

This is the 2.9 non turbo, has anyone here removed one of these and if so, did it come out the top?

Also, I was thinking about buying some service info. Looking on ebay I see several different sellers selling the "vadis" dvd's. Are these all the same? Is there a way to hook up to the car with a laptop to diagnose computer problems?

You can bring it out the top with trans attached, if you lower subframe so the trans can go to the outside more then the engine will clear the trans. I think removing together is easier but requires axles be removed.

Vadis requires an interface called a VCT2000 for it to connect and "talk" to car.

I had a feeling that's the way this car is going to be. I did a diesel Jetta not long ago that I had to loosen up the trans and move it to the side to get enough room to let the engine come out the top. Pain in the butt compared to the earlier cars!

I can tell this car is basically setup to drop subframe and all out the bottom, I just don't have the means to make that happen in my driveway.
