Hi and thanks for your forum all concerned.
Newly bought v70xc wagon is losing oil i have heard- yet to drive it myself.
No signs of leaking or burning noticed or visible.
Are these more likely to have bad rings or be leaking under load?
Is this a ridiculous question? Or Both?
Anyway, There are no signs of oil underneath, and it appears well maintained.
175,000 miles
Thanks all

Welcome to the forum.
It could be either - rings don't usually go bad in these engines, but valve stem seals will cause a little bit of oil consumption. Most of these engines around this age/mileage have stem seals that leak a little bit - you may get a blue puff of smoke on startup or after idling for a long time.
The turbo models will leak oil ANYWHERE, but it doesn't always reach the ground. Pull off the spark plug cover and have a look around. Then crawl up under it with a flashlight and have a look around underneath.
